An accident on northbound I-15 in the Lindon area has caused significant delays on the freeway and artery roads.
This road closure will impact busing throughout the district. We anticipate bus delays at multiple schools, including activity buses.
All routes will be completed, but it is unknown how long this will take.

Dear Trailside Community,
I hope this message finds you and your families well. As many of you know, five schools in the area were placed in a SECURE status due to the incident that occurred yesterday at Utah Valley University. I recognize that hearing this news naturally raised anxiety and concern for many in our community.
I take responsibility for the delay in communication. Our administrative team was in close contact with our supervisor and district administration, who followed the direction of law enforcement at the UVU Command Center, managing the situation. We monitored updates closely and acted under their guidance. Following their instructions, we waited to reach out until we had more accurate information to share.
Provo Metro Dispatch issued a shelter-in-place order for certain areas surrounding UVU. Trailside was not included in the notice radius. Based on the information being received at the time, there was no credible information that Trailside Elementary School was in danger. For that reason, the Sheriff’s Office did not issue a separate alert but instead worked closely with the City to help address the questions and concerns parents and families were receiving.
Deputies continue to monitor the situation closely and will continue to communicate any concerns with the school administration. We are also working to improve crisis communication and coordination so that future communication is more timely and consistent.
Moving forward, we are committed to communicating more promptly with our families during such events. Please know that the safety of our students and staff remains our top priority, and we are using this experience to strengthen both our preventive measures and our emergency responses. We regret any distress this situation may have caused and greatly appreciate your understanding and partnership as we continue to learn and improve.
The district has also provided important reminders and resources to help us support students through difficult situations:
The District Student Support Services team is available to provide assistance and additional personnel if needed.
Our school psychologists, counselors, and therapists are prepared to support individual students, classes, or families who may require additional care. Please reach out if you would like this support.
There is information that is helpful for parents and educators regarding speaking to children about violence posted on OUR WEBSITE. https://trailside.alpineschools.org
Thank you for your continued trust in our school. Together, we will support one another and ensure Trailside remains a safe and caring place for all.
With appreciation,
Geovanni Guzman, Principal
