Keeping up with technology and school can be dizzying for parents. A new web page will help them get their bearings.

Navigating Technology: Partnering with Parents is designed to help parents navigate the ever-changing world of technology in education. The page offers resources, strategies, and guidance to ensure parents, students, and teachers can work together to make the most of digital tools.

This initiative recognizes the essential role parents play in supporting their students as technology continues to shape learning inside and outside of the classroom.

Parents are encouraged to visit the page to learn more and take advantage of the resources available.

“It’s challenging to lead kids toward more responsible behavior if, as a parent, you don’t really know what your child is doing,” said Darren Draper, ASD’s administrator of technology and digital innovation.

The COVID-19 pandemic elicited a need for new ways to teach children. Since there weren’t in-person classes, learning needed to be redefined, and digital tools were the solution. While schools had already been slowly integrating technology into the everyday lives of students, the remote learning environment accelerated this process.

Technology has been constantly changing since then– especially in classrooms–and children quickly gravitate toward the next new thing. This webpage is a resource that guides parents to stay actively involved in students’ learning.

The newly launched webpage provides parents with descriptions of the types of technology students have access to at school, as well as explanations as to why these resources are being chosen. Some of the most helpful features are the various tutorials parents might follow to understand further how to use these resources effectively.

Parents and teachers working together and communicating effectively is the most important factor in this effort. Teachers and administrators in ASD know that real success comes when parents are directly involved in their students’ education. The webpage was designed to enhance communication between families and schools, while providing parents with resources to better understand how technology is utilized in the classroom.

Draper emphasized this point, saying, “We encourage parents to reach out to their teachers whenever they have any questions or concerns about how technology might be used.”

By exploring the page, parents can gain insight into the ways technology shapes learning, discover practical strategies for supporting their children, and strengthen connections with their teachers.

Together, parents, teachers, and students can ensure that technology remains a powerful tool for success in today’s digital world.
