Welcome to Tim Thompson, the new principal of LPHS! Learn more about him and his excitement to join the Home of the Knights in his introductory message below.
"I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and share how genuinely excited I am to be joining the Lone Peak community. It’s an honor to be part of a school with such a strong reputation, and I feel very fortunate to be working alongside all of you.
A little about me professionally—I started my career many years ago as an elementary teacher, then moved into secondary education as a math teacher. From there, I had the opportunity to serve as an assistant principal at Polaris/East Shore and later at AF High. I also spent one year as a secondary special education director, and for the past six years, I have been the principal at Vista Heights. Throughout each of these roles, I have developed a deep appreciation for the work we do and the impact strong teams can have on students.
One thing I’ve especially loved about my time in high school settings is the experience beyond the classroom. I’ve always appreciated all the extracurricular opportunities where you get to see students doing the “fun” high school things that really help shape who they are. Not that classroom instruction isn’t incredibly important—it absolutely is—but there’s a different kind of energy after school that is special to be a part of.
Personally, I have lived in American Fork for over 20 years. I have five grown children, with a couple still in college, and more importantly, four grandchildren—with one more on the way in just a few weeks. My wife and I love spending time with our grandkids, and they keep us busy in the best way.
I care deeply about people, relationships, and creating a positive environment where both students and adults can thrive. I believe in working hard, staying positive, being organized, and always keeping students at the center of our decisions. I also believe the best schools are built by strong teams, and I value collaboration, trust, and supporting one another.
In my previous experiences, the most meaningful part of the work has always been the people—getting to know students, supporting teachers, and celebrating growth along the way. I see my role as a servant leader—someone who listens first, supports where needed, and works alongside you to help remove barriers so you can do your best work.
I know Lone Peak already has something special, and my goal is not to change that, but to learn from you, build relationships, and contribute in a way that adds value. I’m really looking forward to getting to know each of you—both professionally and personally.
Thank you for everything you do each day for students and for each other. I’m excited for what’s ahead and grateful to be on this journey with you."
