resilient utah month

This April, schools across Utah are coming together around a shared mission: helping students build the resilience they need to navigate life’s challenges with confidence and support.

Governor Spencer Cox has officially declared April 2026 as Resilient Utah Month, reinforcing the importance of strengthening mental health and emotional well-being across school communities.

Why This Matters Now

Across Utah, many children face challenges such as anxiety, depression, bullying, and social pressure. The state’s declaration highlights a critical truth: resilience is not something students are simply born with—it is a skill that can be taught, practiced, and strengthened.

By building resilience, schools help students:

  • Develop confidence and emotional strength

  • Navigate setbacks and stress more effectively

  • Build stronger relationships with peers and adults

  • Feel more hopeful about their future

Supporting Schools, Teachers, and Families

This initiative, led by ResilientYOU, provides practical tools to help educators and families support students in meaningful ways.

Elementary educators can access the Child Connection Toolkit, a resource designed to:

  • Strengthen student-teacher relationships

  • Encourage positive decision-making

  • Build essential life skills through engaging content

Families are also encouraged to participate, reinforcing resilience at home and creating stronger connections with their children.

How Schools Can Take Action

Throughout April, schools are encouraged to actively celebrate resilience by integrating it into their daily environments.

Simple ways to participate include:

  • Incorporating resilience themes into classroom discussions

  • Highlighting student stories of perseverance

  • Sharing resources with parents and caregivers

  • Promoting school-wide activities focused on connection and well-being

  • Including resilience messaging in newsletters, announcements, and events

A special message for parents and teachers will also be shared mid-month, offering additional guidance and support.

Building a Culture of Resilience

Resilient Utah Month is more than a campaign—it’s an opportunity to build a lasting culture where students feel supported, connected, and capable of overcoming challenges.

By working together—schools, families, and communities—we can help every child develop the strength they need not just to succeed in school, but to thrive in life.
