Dear Fellow Library Lovers,

The Highland City Library is Holding a Book Drive and Highland Elementary wants to help. The library will have boxes at our school for the next two weeks - April 20th to May 1st. Please consider donating any books that you no longer want to keep at your homes. The sale of books will benefit the city library and the many programs they run to support the community.

Thanks

We encourage our students, faculty, staff and community to participate in "Purple Up Day" tomorrow by wearing Purple to school.

Governor Cox has included Utah in the April National Recognition of Military Children. April 15 is recognized as “Purple Up Day,” a day for all citizens across Utah to wear purple in visible support of military children, symbolizing the unity and combined strength of all branches of our Armed Forces, as purple represents the combination of the various service branch colors. You can learn more by reading this article: https://highland.alpineschools.org/o/highland/article/2801690

Highland is in the process of becoming a new Purple Star School. As a Purple Star school, we make a commitment to supporting military families and our students of military families. You can learn more about Alpine School District Purple Star Schools here: https://www.alpineschools.org/page/purple-star-schools/

Bring out your purple and "Purple Up" with us tomorrow.

Tomorrow is National School Librarian's Day. We want to celebrate our favorite librarian. Mrs. Chadwick brings the adventures of reading to life. Our students love library time because of Mrs. Chadwick. We are grateful to have her at Highland.

Battle of the Books came to an end this year with two fun assemblies. The 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade classes each attended assemblies. Prizes were awarded for sportsmanship, posters, books read and more. For the conclusion of each assembly the winning students team took on a teacher team. The 3rd/4th grade students were Beared by the teachers and the 5th/6th grade student team triumphed with a two question steal over the teachers. We want to thank Mrs. Fors the PTA chair for Battle of the Books and the MANY volunteers from who made this exciting opportunity available to so many of our students. Next year's book lists will be made available as soon as they are published. Keep on reading!

Hello Parents,

We are excited to invite parents and children to our tenth annual Brain Fair on Saturday, April 11th, from 10:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m. in the Liberal Arts (LA) building hallway at Utah Valley University.

This event offers children of all ages the chance to explore the brain, neurons, and the senses through hands-on activity stations created by UVU undergraduate students under psychology faculty mentorship. It’s a wonderful opportunity for families to engage together in science learning and spark curiosity about the human brain.

Please see the attached flyer for additional details, and feel free to contact me with any questions.
Thank you so much for your help in sharing this with your school community.

Have a wonderful day.
Warmly,
Claudia Jorgensen

Dress Standards Reminder: As the weather gets warmer we need to bring attention to the importance of following school dress standards. In particular, please make sure that your students are wearing appropriate footwear. School footwear needs to include a back strap so that they stay on the feet when playing outside. We know that students love their flip flops and slides but they are not allowed because they are not consider safe footwear for school. Please also take note of the guidelines for sleeve width and shorts/skirt lengths. Thank you for helping encourage this for students and following these same guidelines when visiting the school as volunteers. (ASD Policy 5152 can give you more detail.) If you have any other questions please reach out to the office.
