Grovecrest Elementary is proud to announce our new designation as a Purple Star School, recognizing our commitment to supporting military-connected children as they transition between schools and navigate the unique challenges of military life. The Purple Star Award is a national program through the Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3) that honors schools making a concerted effort to serve students whose parents serve in the armed forces.
To earn this distinction, Grovecrest Elementary had to meet several key requirements:
Designated staff members available for military families to contact directly.
A dedicated webpage to offer useful resources and information for military families.
A student-led transition program to help new students make friends, find their way around, and feel welcome from day one.
All staff to receive professional development focused on the needs of military-connected students.
The school host to annual events, resolutions, or volunteer opportunities supporting military families.
For Grovecrest, many of these measures are already a valued part of our school traditions. Our annual Veterans Day program, the creation of the Veterans Wall of Honor, and our Letters to Soldiers campaign at Christmas all contribute to making military families feel seen and supported. Last year, the student council launched a mid-year new student transition plan, ensuring every new student gets a warm welcome, a school tour, some Grovecrest swag, and friendly faces at lunch and recess.
We invite you to visit our Purple Star page on the Grovecrest website for more information and resources for military-connected children. We are grateful for the sacrifices made by military families, and it is our honor to support their children as they join our school community. Thank you to all who serve and support our country!
