We’ve had some challenges this school year. Though difficult at times, they can reveal the strength, compassion, and resilience found within each of us and in the community we serve.
We should all be heartened to know that we have leaders who choose to act, lead out and help our students, families and team members overcome those challenges.
It is fitting, during National Principals Month, to recognize the wonderful work of all of our school administrators. We have more than 90 principals and 150 assistant principals who are tested every day.
I recently had the opportunity to address many of these administrators, and we talked about a few of the challenges of leadership. A few of them are top of mind now:
You’ll Have to Deliver Hard News While Protecting Trust
You’ll Sit with a Team member or Student Grieving the Loss of Someone They Loved
You will Internalize Emotion That Was Never Yours
You’ll Have to Prioritize People Over Process
You’ll Have to Remain Calm During Chaos
You’ll Be Remembered For How You Made People Feel
Students and staff throughout Alpine School District are lucky to have administrators leading the various levels of our organization with empathy, courage, and integrity. They model the knowledge, skills, and dispositions found in our Vision for Learning that are required of great educators.
My deepest gratitude goes out to all of our administrators.
