dresses set up on racks

Every student deserves to feel confident, included, and celebrated.

Students at Cedar Valley High School took a step toward that vision on Saturday, March 7, 2026, as the school hosted the Cinderella Project formal wear sale in the commons area. The event, led by Community Outreach Coordinator Jessica Stauffer in partnership with the Alpine Foundation and student organizations, provided affordable prom dresses, suits, and accessories to students. By offering items at little to no cost, the event aimed to reduce financial barriers and ensure all students could participate in milestone school experiences.

“The Cinderella Project helps to ensure that all students can participate in formal events like Prom, regardless of their financial situation,” Stauffer said. She explained that partnerships with local businesses and community organizations made the effort possible, noting donations from formalwear companies and outreach through school channels and the Chamber of Commerce. “It provides low-cost options and relieves the financial burden on parents or students and allows them to focus on the social and emotional highlights of these milestone events.”

The event reflects Alpine School District’s commitment to student-centered experiences by creating opportunities where every student feels included. Stauffer emphasized that success is measured not just in numbers, but in impact. “What makes this event truly successful is the deep sense of community it fosters,” she said. “Success is defined by seeing a student find a dress or suit that makes them feel happy, confident, and excited.”

For students, that impact is immediate and meaningful. “It made it more inclusive and inviting so that even if money was tight, you could feel excited for the event,” said Ellie Call, a 10th-grade student and member of Student Council and Key Club. She added that the experience went beyond affordability. “I loved seeing all of these other students getting excited for Prom and…help[ing] the girls feel confident while trying on dresses.”

Volunteers also witnessed the difference firsthand. Laura O’Connor, CVHS registrar and Key Club advisor, described the event as a highlight of student service efforts. “They love preparing for the event and being a part of helping students find an affordable dress/suit to wear for Prom,” she said. O’Connor noted the emotional impact on families, adding that the program “removes barriers that otherwise would hinder them attending Prom” and creates moments of excitement and relief for both students and parents.

The Cinderella Project, a statewide initiative founded in 2017, continues to expand its reach through partnerships with school districts, including Alpine. By collecting and redistributing donated formalwear, the program ensures resources stay within local communities while supporting students directly.

At its core, the event is about more than clothing—it is about belonging. Through community collaboration and student leadership, Cedar Valley High School demonstrated how small acts of service can create lasting impact. When barriers are removed, students are free to focus on building confidence, forming connections, and creating memories that last well beyond a single night.
