Meet Diane Knight, a formidable force who brings 36 years of classroom experience to the Aspen Peaks School Board. Her time spent raising five children has provided her with a distinctive perspective, allowing her to see education through the lens of both a parent and educator. She considers the thousands of students she has taught as well as their parents to be her "forever friends”.
“My vision for Aspen Peaks School District is to be the place where magic happens for every student. I firmly believe that in order to take care of our students, we must first take care of our teachers. I want Aspen Peaks to be the destination of choice for educators in every stage of their career—a place where they feel supported, valued, and empowered to make that magic happen in their classroom. When we take care of our teachers and involve our parents, the results for our students will be exponential.”
Much of Knight’s career was as a teacher in Alpine School District. After retirement, she decided to run for a board position in the newly formed district that included her hometown of Lehi.
Her teaching experience set her up for board leadership. During the first several weeks after the board was constituted, Knight spent hours each day learning operations, policies, and governance from Alpine School District employees and board members.
“It has been an absolute honor and privilege these past few months to get a glimpse behind the curtain of Alpine School District. What I have seen is absolutely impressive — the dedication, the talent and the genuine commitment to do what’s best for students as we work to build three strong districts. We are truly standing on the shoulders of giants.
“I am thrilled by our superintendent’s vision to build on this strong foundation with creativity and innovation, while staying focused on what matters most — our students. I’m honored to be part of this work and excited for what lies ahead.”
Taught second and third grades, ran a private preschool with a custom curriculum, and spent 16 years teaching kindergarten.
